I'm in the initial pinch hits, and my username starts with p (pyrrhical), but I didn't receive an email. Should there have been something? Just wanted to check!

Nothing to worry about; the people we were contacting at this stage were those with no one to create for (because none of their offers matched the requests of people signed up, so we asked them to add extra offers; we can't send assignments at all until everyone has someone to create for). Being an initial pinch hit might mean you had no one offering your requests (which is the other way around), but can also be the result of the algorithm already having assigned all your possible matches elsewhere.
