We have a few more queries about pending nominations:
German Mythology
- The Loreley | Die Lorelei & None - the AO3 tag for the character is Die Loreley | The Lorelei and while the German spelling seems to be different between different versions, the English spelling seems to be consistently "Lorelei". Please clarify.
Star Wars - All Media Types
- Darth Vader/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren - the canonical "Kylo Ren/Anakin Skywalker" tag has 14 fics complete and in English. Please clarify why this should be considered distinct.
Vampire: The Masquerade
- All the nominated ships for this are between characters from "L.A. by Night" which seems to be a specific V:tM game streamed on Twitch - would it be better as a specific fandom in the tag set?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-16 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)People who want Original Trilogy Darth Vader often don't want Prequel Trilogy Anakin Skywalker in exchanges. If you're treating them as the same you may want to double check relationships you've already approved for consistency.

However, it seems that the nominator has decided to withdraw the nom, so it's now moot. (And all the other approved tags in AMT use "Anakin Skywalker", so are unambiguous.)ETA: It's reappeared; we would still like to hear from the nominator - it may be that it would work better under a more specific fandom tag than AMT, if the intention is to exclude the PT take on Darth Vader.

The nomination is for "The Loreley | Die Lorelei & None" while the existing AO3 tag for the character is "Die Loreley | The Lorelei". So I guess we want to know two things: which spelling you want in each language and whether you want "German | English" or "English | German". (Standard AO3 tagging practice would seem to favour the former.)
If you want to double check your nom and then confirm that you're happy with it, adjusted or not, we'll approve it.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-17 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)If we want to go into detail: there are about 200 different Low German dialects. Each of them has a different way of pronouncing Loreley, and most Low German languages don't have a standardized spelling, so any "spelling" is a phonetic transcription anyway. High German has standardized spellings - but lore ley, "the murmuring rock", is neither High German nor even a proper noun. It's just a descriptive Low German term (Rheinland dialect, if we want to be really precise) that will probably not even be understood by most High German speakers. English speakers, unfamiliar with any German dialects, seem to treat "Loreley/Lorelei" as a personal name, which, technically, it's not - hence also the article, THE Loreley, that would be unnecessary (or rather downright wrong) in case of a personal name - but I don't care all that much, really. I mean, I am a massive nerd when it comes to German folk tales, but I never worried about spelling. I'd say it's entirely impossible to misspell Low German stuff. I didn't even notice I had the spelling versions the other way around than the AO3 tag since from a German perspective it's a non-issue...
... I adjusted the nomination now so it has the language versions like in the tag. Hope that's okay now!
